A Life In Flavor
Marcella Hazan forever changed the way Americans cook Italian food. But her path to culinary fame was anything but traditional. Trained as a scientist and disabled by a childhood injury that left her with the use of only one hand, Marcella had never cooked a single dish until she moved to the U.S. It was here, far from her native Italy, that she discovered her passion for cooking — and her voice.
Through her bestselling cookbooks and unforgettable cooking classes, Marcella introduced generations of Americans to the heart of Italian cuisine. Her no-nonsense approach and fierce dedication to authenticity redefined home cooking and made ingredients like garlic, basil and real Parmigiano household staples.
Now, American Masters brings her remarkable journey to life in a new documentary. Discover the woman behind the recipes — the trailblazer who stirred a nation’s appetite and reminded us that great cooking begins with love, tradition and a fearless spirit.
Airs Friday, July 11, at 9 p.m. Watch live or stream with the PBS app.
