Fall 2020
A WORD FROM OUR CEO, JACK GIBSON
Like many of you, I’m looking forward to closing the books on 2020 and welcoming a fresh start – one with more hopeful news.
In the meantime, 2020 isn’t over quite yet – and what a year it has been. Through it all, AZPM is still here, and our services and programs are in higher demand than ever before. And that’s thanks to you.
With Election Day 2020 around the corner, we’re proud to provide a full spectrum of trustworthy and up-to-the-minute coverage. Our one-hour Washington Week election special and our Arizona 360 election episode, along with live election day coverage from PBS NewsHour, mean you’ll get every update as soon as it breaks.
We know you rely on the information you find on AZPM for important updates that help keep your family safe. That’s why we continue to share daily COVID-19 updates from the Arizona Department of Health and Services via a dedicated web page, along with news updates you need to stay informed about the course of the pandemic.
As you support your family in various learning scenarios, AZPM is proud to provide resources that meet our community’s educational needs. Arizona At-Home Learning provides resources for children ages 2-8 and is linked to favorite shows available 24/7 on PBS KIDS. These resources align with state standards and focus on educational literacy, STEM, and social-emotional learning. The learning continues for students in grades 6-12 with supplemental educational programming on PBS 6 Plus, weekdays from 12-5 p.m.
More information is available at education.azpm.org/distancelearning.
While this year is unlike any other, the things you’ve always loved about AZPM are still available to you – like our entertaining and exciting programs that serve as your window to the world around you.
One such program, NOVA: Touch the Asteroid, aired on October 21 and is now available for on-demand viewing on PBS Passport. The program offers a behind-the-scenes look at the planning and execution of the University of Arizona-led mission in which NASA spacecraft OSIRIS-REx attempts to collect a sample from the surface of an asteroid and return it to Earth for study. A special episode of Arizona Illustrated will also feature exclusive interviews with the University of Arizona team leading the mission.
Caring viewers and listeners like you make it all possible. Your ongoing support keeps AZPM on the air and ensures that we only answer to you and create content with you in mind. We’re so grateful to have you by our side.

Preserving Truth and Freedom in the Philippines on FRONTLINE: A Thousand Cuts
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is on a horrifying mission. He will not stop until he erodes democracy, effectively promotes disinformation campaigns, and strangles the country’s free press.
As chronicled in the brand-new, Sundance-selected film A Thousand Cuts, journalist Maria Ressa puts her life on the line to defend the truth and democracy that Filipinos deserve. She questions Duterte’s determination to strip his country of its freedoms and incite fear and conformity among its people.
Produced, written, and directed by Ramona S. Diaz, the film simply cannot be missed.
