Five years ago, KPBS realized we could only reach new heights by launching the largest campaign in our 62-year history. Building on Trust: The Campaign for KPBS will transform our headquarters for better collaboration with the community, expand our programs and educational services and invest in the journalism you rely on every day. This is about more than four walls—it is about creativity and connection. Who will be the next storyteller, journalist, champion of democracy, artist or intellectual to incubate their ideas at KPBS? And speaking of new storytelling collaborations, we have a new TV show debuting September 15. “Fresh Glass,” hosted by Cassandra Schaeg, is a six-episode docuseries with guests whose personalities and journeys symbolize empowerment, grit and perseverance. Viewers will join Schaeg on adventures to wineries, breweries and restaurants, sharing the stories and spirits of women and BIPOC trailblazers. You won’t want to miss it.

Ken Burns: How America Responded to the Holocaust
“The U.S. and the Holocaust” is a three-part docuseries directed and produced by Ken Burns, Lynn Novick and Sarah Botstein. The series examines the rise of Hitler, antisemitism and racism in Europe, and America’s response to one of the greatest humanitarian crises of the 20th century.
This historic deep dive, years in the making, provides firsthand accounts of the violence and persecution endured by desperate survivors seeking refuge. The series depicts how these struggles tested the ideals of our democracy and raised many of the same questions society grapples with today.

A Fresh Start with “Fresh Glass”
Starting this fall, a new six-episode series, “Fresh Glass,” examines the colorful wine and beer industry. Travel to wineries, breweries and restaurants and meet the trailblazing BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) women who share their stories and spirits.
Discover the passion behind these extraordinary business women who are chasing the American dream. Hear from the only female Native American winemaker in the U.S. Applaud Mexican-born Executive Chef Claudette Zepeda for supporting representation in fine dining. Meet San Diego’s only female winemaker and learn from one Hispanic winemaker who creates newness while embracing old traditions. “Fresh Glass” is a feel-good series for oenophiles, cicerones and foodies.

“POV: Love & Stuff”
“How do you live without your mother?” Filmmaker Judith Helfand asks this unbearable question twice: as a daughter caring for her terminally ill mother; as an “old new mom,” single parenting her much-longed-for adopted baby girl at 50+. With humor and lots of heart, this multigenerational love story ultimately asks: What do we really need to leave our children?

“Van der Valk”
“Van der Valk” and his team are back investigating high-profile cases and gritty murders in the picturesque city of Amsterdam. Fans will be immersed in contrasting worlds, from artists living as squatters to a philosophy-obsessed serial killer and much more.
“Van der Valk” premieres Sunday, September 25, at 9 p.m. on KPBS-TV.
“Miss Scarlet & The Duke” returns for Season two! Eliza Scarlet, London’s first-ever female detective is back, and as spunky as ever. This season, Eliza continues to grow her private detective firm with the somewhat reluctant help of her friend (or more-than-friend?), police detective William “The Duke” Wellington.
“Miss Scarlet & The Duke” premieres Sunday, October 16, at 8 p.m. on KPBS-TV.
“Magpie Murders” premieres Sunday, October 16, at 9 p.m. on KPBS-TV.
“Annika”
In “Annika,” Nicola Walker (Unforgotten, Last Tango in Halifax) stars as Detective Inspector Annika Strandhed, a single mom and unstoppable police chief, recently transferred to Glasgow, Scotland to lead the newly-formed Marine Homicide Unit (MHU).
“Annika” premieres Sunday, October 16, at 10 p.m. on KPBS-TV.

Dive Headlong into Three of Earth’s Most Fascinating “Rivers of Life”
We’ve already dived into the Amazon, the Nile and the Mississippi. It’s time to go exploring again on “Rivers of Life.”
The sheer abundance of wildlife—flora and fauna—that are sustained by the world’s rivers is breathtaking. When you think about it, rivers are the blood vessels of the continents and just as miraculous in their usefulness.
In Season two, “Rivers of Life” tells the story of how three of Earth’s greatest rivers create opportunities for extraordinary animals and people as they flow from source to sea. Get a deeper look at the “Yukon: The Great Frozen River,” the “Danube: The Queen of Rivers” and the “Zambezi: Africa’s Wildest River.”

“35th Hispanic Heritage Awards”
The “35th Hispanic Heritage Awards” is an evening to commemorate the remarkable contributions of Latinx artists and iconic visionaries.
Join KPBS in celebrating legendary Grammy-winning band Los Lobos as one of the first announced honorees to be presented with the Hispanic Heritage Arts Award. The roots of Los Lobos lie deep in their East Los Angeles barrio, and they draw influences from blues, rock, jazz, and Mexican and Latin American music.
Prior honorees include Carlos Santana, Salma Hayek, Ricky Martin, Rita Moreno, Gloria Estefan and Latina NASA engineers.

“Independent Lens: Hazing”
A groundbreaking new documentary examining the impact of hazing across fraternities and sororities, athletic teams and even the military.
In “Hazing,” Director Byron Hurt interviews victims’ families and survivors and shares his own experience providing a portrait of the culture and exposing the danger and careless reality of hazing. Hurt examines the consequences of pledging rituals fueled by tradition, secrecy and the desire to belong.

“Making Black America: Through the Grapevine” is a four-part, must-see series from executive producer Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and director Stacey L. Holman.
Gates and Holman take viewers into an extraordinary world demonstrating Black people’s ability to prosper, defy white supremacy and define Blackness in groundbreaking ways that transformed America itself.

Insights into Iconic Historical Figures
“Harriet Tubman: Visions of Freedom” is a riveting story of a woman who risked her own life to liberate enslaved people. As the “Conductor” of the Underground Railroad, Tubman was also a leading abolitionist, suffragette, scout and civil war soldier who believed that freedom should be universal.
“Becoming Frederick Douglass” is an inspirational story of a man born into slavery and becoming one of the most influential voices in American history. As a gifted orator, he used his words to speak out against slavery and advocate for social justice and equality.
